2025 Grunin Prize for Law and Social Entrepreneurship Awarded at NYU Law

The Grunin for Law and Social Entrepreneurship at NYU School of Law has awarded the 2025 Grunin Prize. The Grunin Prize aims to reward the innovation, potential impact, and replicability and/or scalability of projects and solutions developed by lawyers to advance the fields of social entrepreneurship and impact investing. The Grunin Prize was awarded on June 3, 2025 as part of the Annual Conference on Legal Issues in Social Entrepreneurship and Impact Investing—in the US and Beyond, co-hosted at NYU School of Law by the Grunin Center for Law and Social Entrepreneurship and the Impact Investing Legal Working Group.

The 2025 Grunin Prize was awarded to International Finance Corporation (“IFC”) and PT Amartha Mikro Finance (“Amartha”) for launching an innovative financing solution (the “Facility”) to provide micro-finance loans to under-served female micro entrepreneurs in rural Indonesia. The 2025 Grunin Prize for Sustained Commitment was awarded to Carl Valenstein. Mr. Valenstein is a partner in the Boston office of Morgan Lewis. For more than 30 years, Mr. Valenstein has provided legal assistance to microfinance institutions and assisted public charities, foundations, social enterprises and entrepreneurs, impact investment venture capital funds, and other impact investors. This is the 8th annual Grunin Prize awarded by the Grunin Center. The mission of the Grunin Center is to enhance the community of lawyers and legal institutions engaged in social entrepreneurship and impact investing and to accelerate their effective participation in these fields. To fulfill this mission, the Grunin Center educates students and practicing lawyers about legal issues in the field of social entrepreneurship and impact investing; disseminates knowledge and legal research about law and policy developments in this field; and collaborates with other field-building organizations, universities and research centers.
